The Summit Song

N Trovert put AT words to the tune The Longest Day. These are the words we sang at the register after coming down from Katahdin September 25th. Beth videoed us doing it and we hope to become a you tube sensation. They may ask us to come sing it for Trail Days in Damascus VA and we will become stars. Maybe I won’t have to go back to work. :)

The Summit Song – to the tune of The Longest Day

Many folks hiked out of Georgia
One in five walked all the way
Now the climb up Mount Katahdin
Marks their final AT day

Many gals are tired and weary
Many guys slept cold and wet
Now the view from Mount Katahdin
Is a scene they won’t forget

A six month hike, a six month hike
What is there not to like?
Through the rain and wind and hail
On the Appalachian Trail

Counting Steps there were 5 million
14 states along the way
One more time pick up your backpack
As we hike the final day

About atforslcc

We are sisters. We are nothing, yet everything alike. We enjoy spending time together, so we figured...why not 6 months on a trail? Details below: Swan Lake Christian Camp has made a profound impact on countless lives, including our own. Both of us have been involved in Swan Lake all of our lives. First as campers, then counselors and staff. Renee also has served as Program Director at Swan Lake for the past 9 years. Swan Lake holds camps for kids ages 4-18 during the summer and February and hosts adult and youth retreats throughout the year. The camp is in the process of fundraising for an addition to their lodge. This will help bolster the ministry that takes place at camp. It has been a dream of Renee's to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. As we started making plans we decided to do this as a fundraiser for the Swan Lake building project. This 2,170+ mile adventure will start in April of 2012 and finish in October. We are excited to give back to the camp as we have been so blessed by it ourselves. We welcome your contributions both monetarily and through prayer. All donations will go toward Swan Lake Christian Camp's building project. Let's make a difference for Swan Lake! Thank you! Renee and Alison

    Dear Renee,

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You did it. The Appalachian Trail is now more than just a dream!

It’s been a wonderful journey to travel along with you [and your AT friends] by reading your emails. Looking forward to “The Longest Day” on YouTube.

When is your next trip to Calgary? We would love to visit with you and hear more of your stories.

    Renee,
What an incredible journey and accomplishment!!! Thanks for letting me ride along. I also want to thank you for promoting the buillding of an adult retreat center at Swan Lake Christian Camp. Adults need to spend time with God away from their regular routine and busy lives. It brings a closer inner presence with God that heals, forgives, and helps us overcome the trials and tribulations of life so that we can become all that God wants us to be.
    Blessings to you. Cheryl

P.S. Great song. Now I would encourage you to write your own song about your journey on the AT. You’re a gifted singer and guitar player and I’m sure could create something fantastic on your own as well.
